Yankees fans worrying too soon say odds makers

London, UK, May 10, 2005 – Fans of the Bronx Bombers should put their worrying on hold, despite their early season struggles, because odds makers still have the Yankees as one of the top favorites to win the World Series come October.

‘Few experts could have predicted that a month into the season, the powerful Yankees would find themselves in fourth place in the AL East division, eight games back of the division leaders,’ said Peter Childs, odds maker, Sportsbook.com. ‘But fans have to remember that the season is still very young, there’s over 130 games left to go, so we’re not pushing the panic button yet.’

Despite their poor start, New York has 13-2 odds to win the World Series, behind only their hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox at 5-1. The Yankees struggles have had an effect on the AL East title odds. Boston, who is also struggling, is now favored at 5-6 compared to 2-1 for the Yankees.

‘Boston is also playing below what people expected, but the fact is, it’s too early to assume these teams are out of the running. They are the most talented teams in baseball and for now they get the benefit of the doubt,’ said Childs.
