A Different Kind of Fall Classic for N.Y.; bodoglife.com Post Odds on Breeders’ Cup

October 26, 2005 – New York is used to crowning champions in October and on Saturday it will crown eight of them. The Breeders’ Cup, the World Series of horse racing and one of the most popular betting events of the year, features a race card of the globe’s finest thoroughbreds dueling for millions.

The Bodog Sportsbook is offering both odds to win the Breeders’ Cup and head-to-head wagering for all eight races at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y. Also, the Bodog Racebook will be offering straight and exotic wagers with live odds.

“The Breeders’ Cup features the best of the best – that’s why so many are attracted to it,” says Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of bodoglife.com. “With the fastest horses in the world competing for more than $14 million in purses and awards, it’s no wonder horse-racing fans and bettors watch and wager as much as they do each year.”

Considered the premier international spectacle in horse racing, the 22nd running of the Breeders’ Cup will feature four defending champions and six undefeated runners. As usual, the highlight of the card will be the $4.68-million Classic for the world’s top colts and geldings. Coming off a win at the Woodward Stakes (Grade 1) in September at Belmont, 5-year-old Saint Liam is the 2/1 morning-line favorite.

His stiffest competition figures to come from Goodwood Stakes’ winner Rock Hard Ten (3/1), Jockey Club Gold Cup champ Borrego (5/1) and Irish import Oratorio (12/1). Australian champion Starcraft (12/1), a late entry, pushed the race’s purse above the $4-million plateau when his owners paid the supplementary fee.

Among the others to watch are Lost in the Fog, competing in the Sprint, and Leroidesanimaux (Mile). Three-year-old Lost in the Fog (1/1 favorite), a strong contender for Horse of the Year honors, has not lost in 10 career starts. Leroidesanimaux (5/2) is an intriguing Brazilian entry and the winner of eight straight races.

Other favorites include Adieu (3/1, Juvenile Fillies), First Samurai (8/5, Juvenile), Ouija Board (5/2, Filly & Mare Turf), defending champion Ashado (5/2, Distaff) and Azamour (4/1, Turf).
